Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled an attempted truck hijacking in the Ijebu North area of the state, successfully recovering a stolen DAF truck loaded with motor spare parts and a fabricated wooden rifle allegedly used by the suspects.
The incident occurred around the Oke-Ado axis of Ijebu North when unidentified hoodlums intercepted the truck driver while he was transporting goods.
The attackers reportedly overpowered the driver and forcefully seized the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division quickly responded after receiving distress information about the attack.
The detectives collaborated with highway patrol operatives and launched an immediate operation to track the suspects.
Their swift intervention reportedly mounted pressure on the fleeing criminals, forcing them to abandon the truck and escape into nearby surroundings before they could complete the operation.

Police officers later conducted a search on the recovered vehicle and discovered a wooden object fashioned to resemble a rifle and wrapped in black tape.
Authorities believe the fabricated weapon was used to intimidate the victim during the hijacking attempt.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries to his right ankle during the encounter and was treated by the police team shortly after the rescue operation.
Babaseyi stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, adding that the command remained committed to protecting motorists and residents across the state.
He also urged members of the public to stay alert and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to security agencies for quick response.
