The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into two men from Ogun State accused of trafficking their teenage daughters to Libya for child labour.
The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Akinsanya Oladimeji and 45-year-old Kehinde Rasheed, allegedly sent their 15-year-old daughters, Adeola and Rokibat Adeyemi, through the desert to the North African country in 2024.
According to the Ogun State NAPTIP Commander, Bose Jimoh, the girls were received in Libya by Afusat Akinsanya, who is reportedly the wife of one of the suspects and mother of one of the victims.

Rasheed, a widower, later claimed that his daughter, Rokibat, died in February 2025 due to illness. However, authorities allege he initially attempted to conceal her death before admitting to the incident following pressure from his late wife’s family.
The matter was reported to the police by concerned family members, leading to the arrest of the two men. The case has since been transferred to NAPTIP for further investigation.
Jimoh stated that efforts are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death, while steps are also being taken to secure the safe return of the second victim, who is still in Libya.
