Ayomide
A tragic altercation over N200 has claimed the life of a 22-year-old brick moulder, Isreal Ayomide, in Ogun State, with the prime suspect currently at large.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 1 at Ori-Ade Block Industry, located along Alaka Road under the power line in the Rosiji area of Ewupe community, Ota.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect, popularly known as Aboy, allegedly stabbed Ayomide following a brief but heated argument over money. A community source, identified simply as Moyo, said the confrontation escalated within minutes.
“The altercation lasted just a few minutes before Aboy pinned Ayomide down and stabbed him. He died before he could be rushed to the hospital,” he said.
Another resident, Daniel, alleged that instead of immediately pursuing the suspect, officers from the Onipanu Police Division detained individuals who reported the incident.
“The suspect is known for violent behaviour. Yet, those who reported the case were detained and only released the next day,” he claimed.
The victim’s father, Mr. Israel, revealed that the fatal encounter took place within his block industry, where his son worked. He explained that the suspect had arrived at the site earlier that day and later demanded N200 from Ayomide, which led to an argument.
“During the fight, my son fell, and Aboy used a bottle to stab him before fleeing. He was rushed to a nearby health centre but was confirmed dead,” he said.

Mr. Israel further disclosed that he had planned to send the suspect away from the premises due to previous concerns about his behaviour. He also noted that the area attracts young people due to nearby recreational activities, including a football field and a small leisure setup run by his son.
The bereaved family and community members alleged that the suspect has a history of violent attacks, with claims that he had stabbed multiple individuals in the past.
They also expressed dissatisfaction with the police response, alleging intimidation of witnesses and lack of timely updates.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident and dismissed claims that the suspect was being shielded due to his mother’s past role in the police force.
According to the officer, the suspect’s mother, now retired, has supported efforts to ensure her son is arrested.
“The suspect is an adult and responsible for his actions. His mother has even stated he should be arrested wherever he is found,” the officer said.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
“Investigation is ongoing. We are doing everything possible to ensure the suspect is brought to justice. However, we cannot disclose details at this stage,” he stated.
Authorities have urged members of the public with useful information to come forward as the search for the fleeing suspect continues.
