Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully disrupted an illegal tax collection operation by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, recovering arms and ammunition in the process.
The operation, carried out by personnel of the 226 Battalion in Sector 4, followed credible intelligence that terrorists were moving within the area to extort levies from local herders.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops, in collaboration with local hunters, laid an ambush along the Gaba–Dzangola high ground in the Guyaku District late on August 6. Contact was established with the insurgents in the early hours of August 7, leading to a gun battle that forced the terrorists to flee into nearby terrain.

Subsequent search operations in the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally fabricated pistol, and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Military sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.
The ambush forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle terrorist networks and cut off their sources of funding, particularly illegal taxation activities that have sustained insurgent operations in parts of Borno State.
Troops have since cleared the area and safely returned to base, maintaining pressure on insurgent elements within the region.
