A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others injured along the Ota–Idiroko Road in Ogun State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Obere, involved multiple vehicles and has once again raised concerns about road safety on one of the state’s busiest corridors.
According to the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash was triggered when a truck lost control and rammed into several vehicles on the expressway.
The vehicles involved in the collision included a MAN Diesel truck, two Suzuki minibuses, and two tricycles.
The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate death of two male victims, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the accident was caused by a combination of excessive speeding and driver fatigue, as the truck driver reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel before losing control.
Akinbiyi disclosed that a total of 21 people were involved in the accident, comprising nine men and twelve females.
