Security operatives in Nasarawa State have launched a coordinated manhunt following the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) by suspected gunmen.
The incident, which has heightened fears among students and residents, reportedly occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday at a private lodge located off-campus.
The victims were said to have been taken from Sure Leaders Lodge in the Bukan Kwato area, a community situated close to the university.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that efforts are underway to rescue the students unharmed and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
According to him, although no arrests have been made so far, security agencies have intensified intelligence operations and are making progress.
“So far, no arrest has been made, but efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe release.
We have identified some persons of interest and are working towards confirming their involvement. We are optimistic the victims will be rescued soon,” he stated.

Sources within the university community revealed that the abducted students are all first-year (100-level) undergraduates. The incident has further amplified concerns over the growing insecurity around off-campus student residences.
A student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as alarming, urging authorities to deploy more security personnel to safeguard students.
“Kidnapping in this environment is becoming a serious issue. We are no longer comfortable, and many students are now afraid to sleep peacefully. The government needs to act fast,” the source said.
The university management has yet to release an official statement regarding the abduction as of the time of filing this report. However, internal sources confirmed awareness of a recent security incident involving a female student, adding to the tension within the campus community.
This latest development underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures around tertiary institutions, particularly in off-campus areas where students remain vulnerable.
Investigations are ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the victims and restore calm in the area.
