Tragedy struck in Enugu State as suspected gunmen launched a deadly attack on a cattle camp in Oheoyya community, Ezeagu Local Government Area, killing two herders and slaughtering dozens of livestock.
The victims, identified as Ahmadu and Umaru, were reportedly the sons of Alhaji Haruna Sale, the South-East Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
According to a statement issued by MACBAN’s National Deputy Director-General, Gidado Siddiki, the attack occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday when armed assailants stormed the camp. In addition to killing the two brothers, the attackers also slaughtered about 40 cows during the invasion.
Siddiki commended the Enugu State Government and security operatives for their swift response, which led to the recovery of the victims’ bodies from the forest for proper Islamic burial.

The association has called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, track down those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.
Reaffirming the lawful activities of its members, MACBAN stressed that herders in the South-East are engaged in legitimate cattle rearing and trade.
The group also appealed to residents of Enugu State to maintain peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding.
Efforts to reach the Enugu State Police Command for an official response were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
