Several schools in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja, and neighbouring Mararaba in Nasarawa State temporarily shut down on Thursday after reports of a possible security threat caused panic among parents and school administrators.
The situation affected schools in the Aso A and Aso B areas of Mararaba, where parents hurried to pick up their children amid fears of a reported attack on a school in Nyanya by suspected bandits. Among the schools affected were Henjodan Primary and Secondary School and Merit Gate Scholar Academy.

According to reports, the management of the schools asked students to return home as concerns spread over the alleged incident. A student of Henjodan School said the principal directed students to leave the premises after information about the reported threat began circulating.
Despite the widespread panic, there was no official confirmation that any school had been attacked or that any students had been abducted.
The police had earlier dismissed reports claiming that schoolchildren were kidnapped in Nyanya and stated that further details would be provided. Authorities urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue.
Efforts to obtain comments from school officials and security agencies regarding the closures were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
The incident highlights growing concerns among residents over security in communities bordering the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State, where rumours of attacks can quickly disrupt normal activities.
