The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a grenade and other items from a suspected hideout in Ubah Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
The operation followed investigations into the August 21 attack on the Agwa Police Division, during which a suspected terrorist kingpin known as Chiemela, alias “Disaster,” was reportedly killed.
According to the police, one of the suspects, 29-year-old Jones Okechukwu Anyim, was arrested on September 15 following information obtained during the interrogation of another suspect, 32-year-old Happiness Uche.
Police operatives subsequently moved to a suspected camp in Ubah Agwa. The command said individuals at the location opened fire when they sighted the officers, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The suspects reportedly fled, with some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.
During a search of an abandoned, uncompleted building at the location, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines containing 52 rounds of live ammunition and a hand grenade.

Other items recovered included military and police uniforms, Biafra flags and regalia, clothing and berets marked ESN, ATM cards, foreign currencies and other materials.
The police also said some items suspected to be ritual materials were recovered from the building, which the command described as a suspected terrorist hideout.
The command said the location had been secured while efforts were ongoing to track down other suspects who escaped during the operation.
The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
The police have also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities in the area.
