
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested six members of a seven-man kidnapping gang and recovered N7.5 million believed to be part of the ransom paid for an abducted eight-year-old boy.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq said the boy was kidnapped on May 13, 2026, while returning from an Islamic school in Katsina city. The next day, the gang contacted his family and demanded N50 million. After negotiations, the family paid N17 million to secure his release.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the newly created Violent Crime Response Unit tracked down and arrested six suspects on May 23. The command identified them as Nura Aliyu, described as the mastermind and a neighbour of the victim’s family, along with Abubakar Aminu, Ibrahim Muhammad, Iliyasu Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, and Abdullahi Isma’il.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed and named one Abdul, still at large, as their accomplice. Police also recovered a Peugeot 307 car, a Boxer motorcycle, and N7.5 million suspected to be part of the ransom money.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers for the operation and assured residents that the command would sustain efforts to tackle kidnapping and violent crime in the state.
