Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique would be his first choice to take over at Old Trafford permanently if the Spaniard became available.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Ferdinand praised interim manager Michael Carrick for his work since replacing Ruben Amorim, but said Enrique stands apart due to his record at PSG. Carrick was appointed on a temporary basis a few months ago after Amorim’s dismissal and has since guided United to Champions League qualification for next season.
“He would be my first choice, given the lack of options that are around right now, considering what he’s done and the lack of options,” Ferdinand said. “The only person I would be looking at seriously and saying, ‘Do you know what? Regardless of what Michael Carrick has done,’ is Luis Enrique, if he became available.”[Carrick]

Ferdinand described Enrique as a great manager and argued that United should act if the opportunity arises. “He’s a great manager. If he’s available, then I don’t care what Michael Carrick has done, you take him because of what he’s achieved at PSG,” he added.
Carrick has earned widespread praise for steadying the side during a turbulent period, but Ferdinand made clear that a coach of Enrique’s calibre would be hard to overlook.
