The Olarinde Royal Family of Oguntedo Village in Satellite Town, Lagos State, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, over alleged police harassment, abuse of power and protection of suspected land grabbers.
The family, in a petition signed by Prince Yussuf Olarinde, accused some officers attached to the Satellite Police Station, Area E Command, Tactical Team Area E and the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department of allegedly frustrating investigations into attacks on members of the family.
The petition was also addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Commissioner of Police overseeing the X-Squad Unit and the Police Service Commission.
According to the family, the disputed New Oguntedo Village and Satellite Town settlement was allocated to the Olarinde Royal Family by the Federal Military Government in 1978 following government acquisition and resettlement exercises.
The petitioners further claimed that their ownership and possessory rights over the property were affirmed by a 1989 Lagos State High Court judgment, with warrants of possession subsequently issued in 1997 and 2010.
Despite the alleged court orders, the family said it had continued to face invasions, demolitions, threats and violent attacks allegedly carried out by individuals it described as land-grabbing syndicates and criminal trespassers.
The family also alleged that some police officers provided operational support for armed thugs, prevented members from accessing their ancestral properties and frustrated complaints made to law enforcement authorities.

It specifically cited an alleged assassination attempt on Olanrewaju Olarinde on July 9, 2025, claiming that armed attackers assaulted him but were not arrested or prosecuted despite repeated complaints.
The petitioners further accused some officers of allegedly manipulating investigations and instituting criminal allegations against family members. They referenced the arraignment of Yussuf Olarinde, Sanni Olarinde and Oba-elect Latifu Sadiku Olarinde over alleged murder and armed robbery charges, as well as another case involving a family member, Tope Olarinde.
The family claimed that some of its properties were demolished, looted or unlawfully occupied during the alleged invasions, with vehicles, building materials, cash and personal belongings worth millions of naira allegedly lost.
Consequently, the Olarinde family urged the Inspector-General of Police to order an independent investigation into the allegations and transfer relevant case files from the Lagos State Police Command to the Force Criminal Investigation Department or another investigative unit outside the state.
They also requested investigations into the officers named in the petition, recovery of allegedly stolen property, prosecution of suspects found culpable and adequate police protection for members of the family and residents of Oguntedo Village and Satellite Town.
As of the time of filing the report, the Force Public Relations Officer, Iniedu Okokon, had not responded to calls and a text message seeking the police command’s reaction to the allegations.
The allegations contained in the petition have not been independently established.
