The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has commenced operations in Wukari, Taraba State, following its relocation from Jalingo.
The relocation, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, is aimed at strengthening the military’s presence in southern Taraba and enhancing ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the state.
The Brigade was moved from Jalingo following the establishment of the 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in the state capital.
Speaking after the relocation, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, assured residents that the change in location would not affect the formation’s mandate.
Akaliro said the Brigade remained committed to protecting lives and property while working to sustain peace across its area of responsibility.
He explained that the military would deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in addressing security challenges, while urging officers and soldiers to maintain discipline, professionalism and dedication to their constitutional duties.
“The mandate and goals of the Brigade remain the same, despite the change in location. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to protect the people and their property and ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Taraba State is sustained,” he said.

As part of the activities marking the commencement of operations in Wukari, the Brigade Commander paid a courtesy visit to the Aku-Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali.
The visit was aimed at formally introducing the Brigade to the traditional institution, seeking the monarch’s support and strengthening collaboration between the military and the local community.
Akaliro expressed appreciation for the warm reception from the monarch and residents, assuring them of the Brigade’s commitment to their safety.
In response, the Aku-Uka welcomed the military personnel to Wukari and pledged the continued cooperation of the traditional institution and residents in supporting the Army’s operations.
The Brigade also conducted a route march through Wukari and adjoining areas as part of efforts to demonstrate its operational readiness and reassure residents of its commitment to maintaining security.
Other activities marking the relocation included a Quarter Guard presentation, an address to troops, prayers, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
The Army’s relocation to Wukari is expected to boost security operations in southern Taraba and complement the activities of the newly established 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Jalingo.
