A 45-year-old man, Joseph Adetola, has allegedly been beaten to death following a dispute with tenants at his family house in Epe, Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened on Friday, August 21, 2026, barely two months after the family buried their mother.
Joseph’s younger brother, Festus Adetona, who lives in Canada, alleged that his brother had been involved in repeated disagreements with some tenants living in their late mother’s house.
According to Festus, another argument broke out on the day of the incident before several people allegedly attacked Joseph inside his room.
He said the attackers reportedly entered the room through a window, tied Joseph up and beat him severely with planks and stones.
Festus alleged that Joseph was left on the floor without receiving medical attention and was confirmed dead before family members arrived at the house.
He said the incident was reported to the Epe Police Division, adding that officers had visited the area during the earlier disturbance but did not make any arrests at the time.
According to him, the police later returned and found Joseph’s body, while the alleged attackers had fled.

Festus said one person had been arrested in connection with the incident, although he claimed the main suspects were still on the run.
He explained that there had been longstanding disagreements between Joseph and some of the tenants, prompting the family to consider asking them to leave the property after their mother’s death.
The grieving family is now calling on the police and other authorities to arrest everyone allegedly involved and ensure they face justice.
