
Dr. Felix Ekhaguere, a former Permanent Secretary in Edo State and a respected medical professional, has passed away at the age of 84.
According to a statement released by his family and signed by his son, Osaretin Ekhaguere, the elder statesman died on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Benin City after a brief illness.
The family described him as an exceptional individual whose life was marked by grace, perseverance, excellence, and a deep commitment to the service of humanity, particularly in the health sector.
Born on October 26, 1941, in Utoka village, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Dr. Ekhaguere hailed from the Asabor family of Ezoti, Ogbe quarters. He was the son of the late Mr. Morgan Ekhaguere and Mrs. Grace Ehiarinmwian Ekhaguere (née Imadiyi).
Over the course of a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Ekhaguere made significant contributions to Nigeria’s public service and healthcare system.

He served as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Central Hospital, Benin, where he rose through the ranks to become a Senior Consultant and later Chief Consultant.
In 1984, he was appointed Medical Director of the hospital, a role in which he demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication to improving healthcare delivery.
Dr. Ekhaguere also served as Permanent Secretary in the Edo State Ministries of Health, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and impactful service.
He is remembered for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his passion for healing lives.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
