
A tragic incident has thrown residents of Ikhe-khe Uhumwenbho community in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State into mourning after a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his father during a dispute over food.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following a heated argument between the suspect, identified as Spiro Odese, and his father, Friday Odese.
According to sources in the community, the disagreement began after the younger Odese confronted his father over the alleged lack of food in their home.
The argument was said to have escalated into violence, with the suspect allegedly reaching for a cutlass and attacking his father. The elderly man reportedly died on the spot from the injuries sustained during the attack.
A resident who witnessed the incident was said to have raised an alarm, attracting neighbours and other members of the community to the scene.

In an attempt to rescue the victim, another resident reportedly intervened but was also attacked and severely injured during the chaos. The injured man is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
The situation later turned violent as angry youths in the community reportedly descended on the suspect and lynched him before security operatives could arrive at the scene.
The shocking development has left residents of the area in disbelief, with many describing the incident as both unfortunate and heartbreaking.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikedem, said officers attached to the Ewohimi Division had not yet been officially briefed on the matter.
