The husband of Oyo State school principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed why he blocked the phone numbers of the kidnappers who abducted his wife, saying their repeated threats had severely affected his health during the ordeal.
Professor Wole Alamu made the disclosure while speaking at a thanksgiving service following his wife’s release after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
Mrs. Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, was kidnapped alongside teachers and pupils on May 15, 2026. The victims were later rescued in an operation announced by the Federal Government.
Recounting the experience, Professor Alamu said he communicated with the abductors for about three weeks but eventually stopped after the constant threats caused emotional distress and dangerously elevated his blood pressure.
According to him, a threatening message from the kidnappers disrupted a scheduled medical check-up after his blood pressure spiked, prompting him to block their contacts.
He said he reached a point where he believed continuing the conversations would put his own life at risk, adding that he entrusted the situation to God.

Professor Alamu disclosed that the kidnappers later informed his wife that he had blocked them and allegedly threatened to kill her. However, he said Mrs. Alamu remained resolute, declaring that neither the abductors nor she herself would take her life despite the threats.
Reflecting on the experience, he described the kidnapping as the greatest trial his family had ever faced, noting that it tested his faith and emotional strength.
He also commended security agencies for their swift response after the abduction, saying senior military and police officials quickly mobilised while aerial surveillance of the forest began shortly after the incident.
Professor Alamu expressed gratitude to Nigerians, religious groups and organisations that supported his family throughout the crisis. He urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith, saying life’s challenges often reveal the strength of one’s spiritual foundation.
