A father has been arrested in Okpanam, Delta State, after allegedly flogging his two-year-old daughter with a cable wire over her failure to greet him.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after the family’s morning prayers.
According to the child’s mother, the father became violent when the toddler failed to greet him. He allegedly tied the girl’s hands with wire before repeatedly flogging her with another wire.
The alleged assault reportedly left the child with visible injuries and scars on different parts of her body.
The mother subsequently raised the alarm, prompting the intervention of filmmaker and human rights activist Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop.
The activist reportedly worked with law enforcement authorities, leading to the father’s arrest and detention.

The suspect is said to be an indigene of Okija, Anambra State.
Police investigations into the alleged child abuse are ongoing, while the incident has generated outrage among Nigerians, with many condemning the use of excessive force against a toddler.
The case has also renewed calls for greater protection of children from domestic violence and abusive forms of discipline.
