Awka, Anambra State — Panic gripped parts of Awka, the Anambra State capital, after gunmen killed popular comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, and another unidentified man in separate attacks.
The incidents occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi, Awka.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the killings on Monday, saying the attackers were believed to be three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla. The vehicle’s registration number was not immediately known.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police operatives were deployed to the affected locations after receiving distress calls and have commenced efforts to track down the perpetrators.
The bodies of both victims were recovered from the separate scenes and taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Police identified one of the victims as Isaac Nwosu, also known as Aiza Nwosu, while the identity of the second victim had yet to be established.
An eyewitness claimed that the attackers may have followed the comedian from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and opening fire. The witness said Nwosu was shot inside his car.

The attackers were also alleged to have moved to another location, where they shot a second man by the roadside and reportedly took some of his belongings before fleeing.
The police said items recovered from the scenes included ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear. However, some residents and eyewitnesses reportedly linked the incidents to suspected cult-related activities, although the police have not confirmed this claim.
Condemning the attacks, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, described the killings as unacceptable and ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive investigation.
He also directed security personnel to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and neighbouring communities.
The police appealed to residents, motorists, business owners, community leaders and anyone with credible information about the suspects or the vehicle used in the attacks to assist investigators.
The command assured members of the public that information supplied would be treated confidentially as efforts continue to apprehend those responsible.
