
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, identified as Aliyu Sani, over an alleged robbery attempt and impersonation in the Kofar Sauri area of Katsina metropolis.
The suspect was arrested on August 22, 2026, following information provided by concerned residents, according to the police.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said in a statement on Monday that the police received a report at about 7 p.m. that a young man was allegedly chasing an unidentified person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim.
The suspect was reportedly attempting to rob the victim when police operatives, working alongside members of a local vigilante group, responded to the incident.
The operatives subsequently apprehended Sani at about 8 p.m. in the Kofar Sauri area.

A search conducted after his arrest led to the recovery of a black toy pistol allegedly used during the incident.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was unable to give a satisfactory account of how he came to possess the toy firearm during preliminary questioning.
Sani remains in police custody as investigations into the alleged robbery attempt and impersonation continue.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar, commended residents and members of the local vigilante group for their prompt response and cooperation with security agencies.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station to assist the authorities in preventing crime across the state.
