Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspects and recovered firearms and stolen motorcycles in separate operations aimed at curbing violent crime across the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Warri.
He revealed that on July 27, 2026, officers attached to the ‘C’ Division in Asaba apprehended a suspect, identified as Joseph Tyavzua, along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway during a routine stop-and-search operation.
According to Edafe, the suspect was found in possession of a pump-action gun while attempting to enter Onitsha on a commercial motorcycle.
Although he claimed to be a member of a vigilante group, he could not provide any legal authorization for carrying the firearm.
The weapon was recovered, and the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a related development, police operatives from the Ekpan Division acted on a report of an armed robbery incident involving a motorcycle rider along Jakpa Road in Effurun. A targeted operation led to the arrest of two principal suspects, Edodo Gift (41) and Emoefe Solomon (27).
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and guided officers to two alleged receivers, Fodio Bello (27) and Kabiru Mohammed (25), in Otowhe near Oleh.
The operation resulted in the recovery of two additional pump-action guns and three motorcycles believed to have been stolen during robbery operations.
All suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their swift and coordinated response.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security efforts across Delta State.
