
Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition in Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on September 12, 2026, at Obaretin Community along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out as part of efforts by the troops to disrupt criminal activities and protect major transportation routes in the area.
According to the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Kennedy Anyanwu, an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

Other items recovered included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The Army said the suspect and the recovered items remained in its custody as investigations continued. Authorities are also working to establish his possible links with other criminal elements and determine his involvement in kidnapping activities along the route.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at protecting communities and major transportation corridors across Edo State.
