The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has arrested no fewer than 279 suspected criminals during a coordinated statewide operation targeting identified blackspots, criminal hideouts, and illegal settlements.
The agency’s General Manager, Prince Ifalade Oyekan, disclosed this during the parade of suspects at the LNSA headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi.
The operation, which spanned from late Sunday into Monday, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen security and maintain public order.
According to Oyekan, the exercise was intelligence-driven, relying heavily on information gathered through the agency’s network of community informants and field operatives.
The suspects comprising 274 males and five females were apprehended for various offences, including theft, public disturbance, and other alleged criminal activities.

He further revealed that a significant number of those arrested lacked valid means of identification and could not provide verifiable residential addresses.
Some suspects were also reportedly intercepted after arriving in Lagos in trucks commonly used for transporting livestock and goods.
While reaffirming the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freedom of movement and residence, Oyekan emphasized that the state would not tolerate criminal behavior or actions that threaten public safety.
“The operation aligns with the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor to ensure Lagos remains one of the safest states in the country despite its growing population,” he stated.
The LNSA boss added that two individuals were caught attempting to steal a submersible pumping machine from a residential building, while several others were found in possession of dangerous weapons, including machetes and knives, as well as suspected illicit substances.
He assured residents that similar operations would continue in collaboration with other security agencies, warning that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Lagos.
All suspects have since been transferred to the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court for further investigation and possible prosecution.
