Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested 81 suspected criminals during a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting identified crime hotspots across the Asaba metropolis.
The operation, conducted on July 24, was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and curb illegal activities in the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the raid was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations alongside tactical units of the command.
He said the operation resulted in the arrest of 81 suspects, made up of 50 men and 31 women, who are being investigated for various offences, including the alleged possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs. Some suspects were also linked to the operation of an illegal checkpoint along the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge.

During the exercise, officers reportedly recovered large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be cannabis. The police also impounded five vehicles allegedly connected to unlawful activities, including the operation of an unauthorised taxi park at Pinnacle Junction on Okpanam Road and the distribution of suspected illicit drugs.
The arrested suspects and recovered exhibits remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
He warned individuals involved in criminal activities to abandon such acts, stressing that the police would continue to pursue offenders and ensure they are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
