The Nigeria Police Force has arrested an accountant accused of masterminding a high-profile burglary in Maryland, Lagos, involving stolen valuables estimated at ₦150 million.
The suspect, who reportedly served as the late property owner’s accountant for 17 years, had been on the run since July 2025 before his arrest on Monday while attempting to re-enter Nigeria from Canada.
According to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, the arrest followed months of coordinated intelligence operations between the Nigeria Police and the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
Investigations revealed that the burglary occurred on July 11, 2025, at a five-bedroom duplex in Maryland, where valuables worth millions were carted away.
While several accomplices had earlier been arrested and remanded, the principal suspect fled the country before authorities could apprehend him.

Through sustained surveillance and international collaboration, Interpol Nigeria tracked and intercepted the suspect upon his return, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
Police authorities stated that the suspect has begun cooperating with investigators, providing crucial information on other individuals connected to the crime.
Efforts are ongoing to recover stolen items and apprehend all those involved, including anyone who knowingly received or benefited from the stolen property.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice, warning that fleeing abroad does not guarantee immunity from prosecution, as global security partnerships continue to strengthen the fight against transnational crime.
