Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued five family members of the abducted Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a deadly terrorist attack on his residence.
The chairman was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday when heavily armed assailants stormed his home, killing members of his security detail during the attack.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the rescued victims include the chairman’s wife, two children, his mother, and another relative.
Danja explained that troops swiftly responded to the sound of gunfire and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The intense pressure forced the terrorists to abandon the five victims while fleeing into nearby bushes with the chairman.

The attack claimed the lives of three members of the chairman’s security team—two police officers and a local vigilante—as well as a civilian. Additionally, the chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries during the incident.
Security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes, have since launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to secure the chairman’s release.
Authorities assured the Zamfara State Government and residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safe return of the abducted official. Residents have also been urged to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing efforts.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, vowing to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
