Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has spoken out against the growing trend of producers casting actors based on social media popularity instead of talent.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Selah Meditate podcast, the thespian said the trend poses no real threat to skilled actors. He insisted that online fame cannot take the place of genuine ability in the industry.
“I don’t think social media fame is replacing real talent. It can’t. There is no way social media fame can replace real talent,” he stated.

Despite the ongoing criticism, many in the industry say little has changed in casting practices. Owoh’s remarks add to the growing conversation about standards and opportunities in Nollywood.
