
Two siblings lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred on Wednesday at the Ijapo area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The crash involved a Nissan car with registration number Ondo WWW 322 TA, an unregistered truck, and a motorcycle. Two other persons also sustained injuries in the incident.
The accident happened in front of the headquarters of the Vehicle Inspection Office, where officials were reportedly carrying out routine vehicle inspections and licence checks at the time.
Eyewitnesses said the victims, who were brothers from the same family, were riding on a motorcycle when the speeding truck rammed into the motorcycle, the Nissan car, and other vehicles, killing the brothers instantly.
A commercial driver whose vehicle was damaged in the crash said he narrowly escaped death.

According to him, he had parked his vehicle to deliver goods when he suddenly heard people shouting.
He explained that when he turned back, he saw the truck crashing into vehicles and motorcycles, forcing him to run for safety.
He added that the truck crushed the two men on the motorcycle instantly.
Residents reportedly became angry after the incident and attempted to attack officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office, blaming them for the accident.
However, police officers at the scene prevented the situation from escalating.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Samuel Ibitoye, said the accident was caused by brake failure.
He disclosed that four persons were involved in the crash, while two people died. He added that the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Ondo State Hospital mortuary by police officers.
The Ondo State Police Command also confirmed the accident, stating that preliminary investigations showed that the truck rammed into the motorcycle and the Nissan vehicle from behind.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said officers quickly responded to the scene and carried out necessary documentation.
He explained that the motorcycle rider and his passenger were rushed to the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure, where doctors confirmed them dead.
Jimoh further stated that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the affected vehicles had been taken to the station for further investigation.
