
The Ebonyi State Police Command has detained several officers following an alleged assault on a civilian in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, sparked widespread outrage after images of the victim surfaced on social media.
A viral post alleged that one of the officers involved, identified as Kingsley Esheya, carried out the attack on an unsuspecting citizen, prompting calls for accountability.
In response to the public outcry, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed in an official statement that the officers implicated in the incident have been identified, detained, and transferred to the state command headquarters.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Hope Okafor, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with handling the probe to ensure due process.
“The officers involved in the recent altercation have been identified and detained. A comprehensive investigation has been ordered, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken based on the findings,” the statement read.
The police command also disclosed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, and expressed wishes for a speedy recovery.
Reaffirming its stance, the command emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards police brutality and misconduct.
It assured the public that the investigation would be transparent, impartial, and in line with established legal procedures, while reiterating its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.
