The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a suspected cross-border human trafficking syndicate, leading to the rescue of a 21-year-old woman who was trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire for sexual exploitation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the victim was lured with a false promise of employment as a supermarket salesgirl but was instead forced into prostitution and subjected to inhumane treatment.
The case came to light on April 13, 2026, after the victim’s mother reported her disappearance at the Okitipupa Division. Investigations revealed that three suspects Akinlaja Blessings, Johnson Ahomari, and one Grace (currently at large) allegedly orchestrated the trafficking operation.
The victim reportedly endured severe physical and psychological abuse and was administered substances believed to aid her exploitation.
She, however, managed to escape from the brothel on April 6, fleeing through a bush path to a nearby town where she contacted her family.

She was safely returned to Nigeria on April 11 and immediately taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa, for urgent medical care.
Police operatives have since arrested two of the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the third and dismantle the wider trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the act, describing it as a gross violation of human dignity, and assured that all perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
He also urged parents and guardians to thoroughly verify job offers, especially those involving travel abroad.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and combating human trafficking across the state.
