In a stunning turn of events at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, all three host nations the United States, Mexico, and Canada have been eliminated from the tournament before reaching the quarter-finals.
The United States became the final co-host to exit the competition after suffering a heavy 4–1 defeat to Belgium in their Round of 16 clash at Lumen Field in Seattle.
The loss capped off a disappointing run for the host nations, who had initially shown promise by advancing into the knockout stage on home soil.
Canada were the first to bow out, following a 3–0 loss to Morocco. The North African side dominated the encounter, with Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice before Soufiane Rahimi added a late goal to seal Canada’s fate.
Canada’s campaign was further weakened by injury concerns surrounding star player Alphonso Davies.
Mexico’s hopes were dashed a day later in a thrilling encounter against England at the Estadio Azteca. Despite strong home support, Mexico fell 3–2, with Jude Bellingham netting twice in quick succession and Harry Kane converting a crucial penalty.

The defeat has reportedly triggered changes within the team’s coaching setup, with Javier Aguirre expected to be replaced by assistant Rafael Márquez.
The United States’ exit was not without controversy, as pre-match discussions were dominated by a reinstated red card involving forward Folarin Balogun, alongside external political commentary that added tension to the fixture.
However, Belgium proved too strong on the pitch, comfortably sealing their place in the quarter-finals.
This year’s tournament marks a historic edition — the first to feature 48 teams and to be jointly hosted across three countries. Matches have been played across 16 cities spanning the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
With the hosts now out, the competition moves into the quarter-final stage featuring only non-host nations.
Teams still in contention include Morocco, France, Norway, Spain, Belgium, England, Argentina, and the winners yet to emerge from the remaining fixtures.
As the tournament heads toward its climax on July 19, the early exit of all host nations stands as one of the biggest talking points of the 2026 World Cup.
