Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after successfully dismantling a suspected ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was carried out on June 24 by personnel of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai following intelligence gathered through surveillance of the area.
Military authorities said troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected suspected insurgents attempting to block the highway, prompting the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force to confront the threat.

On noticing the advancing troops, the suspected terrorists reportedly fled toward the Mangari–Dora axis. Soldiers pursued the fleeing insurgents and engaged them in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the roadblock and retreat.
Following the operation, security forces rescued 53 civilians who had been caught up during the incident and recovered eight vehicles allegedly seized by the insurgents.
The troops also conducted clearance operations along the suspected escape routes and searched nearby locations to ensure the area was secure. No further contact with the fleeing insurgents was reported during the follow-up search.
All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other property were safely evacuated to Buratai town, where the victims are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, describing the operation as another successful effort to protect lives and restore safety along major routes in the North-East.
Residents within the Joint Operations Area have also been encouraged to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information on suspicious movements to security agencies, as troops sustain offensive operations to deny insurgents freedom of movement across the region.
