Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Kautikari Village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday evening, killing one resident and destroying a block of classrooms at Government Day Secondary School. The attack happened around 6:45 p.m. and targeted the junior secondary section of the school.
Malah Kyari, Education Secretary of Chibok LGA, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He said the insurgents set fire to one block containing five classrooms and a staff office. “I can confirm that the insurgents attacked the Kautikari community yesterday, killed one person, and set ablaze one block containing five classrooms and an office at Kautikari JSS,” Kyari said.
The Borno State Police Command also confirmed the attack. Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso said the terrorists burnt two classrooms and killed one man. He noted that joint security forces engaged the attackers and repelled them before more damage could be done.

“The suspected insurgents faced strong resistance from joint security forces, averting further losses. As of now, the area is calm, and intensive patrols are ongoing,” Daso stated.
Samaila Manza, Zonal Inspector for Local Government and Emirate Affairs covering Bama, Chibok, Gwoza, Askira/Uba and Damboa, said the full extent of the damage was still being verified. Residents who fled the community reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles in large numbers and appeared intent on destroying the school and its facilities.
Security agencies have intensified patrols around Kautikari and other vulnerable communities in Chibok following the attack. The incident has renewed concerns about attacks on schools and civilian settlements in Borno State.
