Nigerian troops have rescued 47 people who were being held captive by terrorists linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Kangarwa, Kukawa Local Government Area, following sustained military offensives against terrorist hideouts in the Lake Chad region.
Military authorities said the rescued victims, mostly women and children, regained their freedom after intense ground and air operations forced the terrorists to abandon their positions.
According to the military, the continuous pressure on ISWAP strongholds created an opportunity for the captives to escape from prolonged captivity.
The rescued individuals have been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and humanitarian support. Efforts are also underway to facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
