Troops under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have discovered the body of a man in Torok community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, with evidence suggesting he was violently attacked.
The discovery was confirmed in a statement by the spokesman of the operation, Captain Polycarp Oteh, on Friday.
According to him, personnel from Sector 6 acted on a distress report from residents on Thursday and proceeded to the outskirts of the village, where the remains were found.
The deceased was identified as Toma Chuwang, a resident of the community. Preliminary findings indicate that he was allegedly attacked by suspected militia members while returning from an illegal mining site in the area.

Captain Oteh noted that the condition of the body suggested it had been at the location for several days prior to its discovery.
“The troops confirmed the presence of the corpse, which showed clear signs it had begun to decompose,” the statement read.
The remains have since been evacuated, while security agencies have launched a full investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Authorities also stated that efforts are ongoing to gather actionable intelligence that will aid in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
