
Gunmen have killed at least eight people and injured more than 10 others in a late-night attack on Gwon-Ajang village in Foron District of Plateau State.
The attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, when armed assailants reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents gathered for a birthday celebration.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were attending a social gathering at Gwon-Ajang village when the gunmen stormed the venue and began shooting indiscriminately, causing panic as people fled in different directions.
A community youth leader, Bishop Iliya, said the attackers struck without warning and fired at people gathered for the event, leaving several dead on the spot and others critically injured.
He described the incident as tragic and called for urgent intervention from security agencies, noting that repeated attacks have continued to affect rural communities in the area.

According to residents, the injured victims were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment while security operatives were later deployed to restore order in the affected community.
The Berom Youths Moulder-Association also confirmed the attack, stating that at least eight people were killed and more than 10 sustained injuries.
The group described the assailants as suspected terrorists and urged authorities to take decisive action to prevent further violence.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
