The family of 15-year-old Fadimatu Abubakar Gizo of Yarume Mai Hako village, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has called for justice following her death in circumstances involving an alleged sexual assault.
Fadimatu was reportedly attacked while she and other girls were gathering firewood in a nearby forest. She later died following the alleged incident, throwing her family and members of the community into mourning.
Following the teenager’s death, her family appealed to the Federal and Sokoto State governments, the Nigeria Police Force, the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding her death are thoroughly investigated.
Fadimatu’s father said the family was devastated by the loss and urged authorities to ensure that anyone found responsible faces justice.
Her mother, Malama Yar Buga, also demanded a transparent investigation and prosecution of anyone found culpable. She said her daughter had a future ahead of her and that the family had already been making preparations for her marriage.
The Ward Head of Yarume Mai Hako, Alhaji Abubakar Yarume, described the incident as devastating and said the community would continue to seek justice for the deceased.

Two friends of Fadimatu, identified as Khadijah Buba and Faiza Bello, were reportedly said to have provided information to investigators concerning the incident.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that suspects had been arrested in connection with the case. Police spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the suspects were being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department while investigations continued.
The police said the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and determine the appropriate legal action.
The family and community are now awaiting the outcome of the investigation, with calls for anyone found responsible to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
