
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a pistol and four rounds of live ammunition in Owo.
The suspect, identified as Ogunmola Oluwasola, a resident of Idasen Street, Owo, was arrested during a stop-and-search operation along the Owo-Ute Road.
According to the police, the arrest was made at about 5am on Friday, August 7, when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were conducting routine patrols and stop-and-search operations in the area.
Police spokesperson in Ondo State, Abayomi Jimoh, said a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition were secured as exhibits.

Jimoh said detectives had obtained the suspect’s statement and commenced an investigation into the source of the weapon, its intended use and possible links to robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities in Owo and surrounding communities.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and commitment to proactive policing.
Ohagwu said the command would continue intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other security measures, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone areas.
He also warned criminals and individuals involved in the illegal possession or trafficking of firearms that the police would continue to pursue and bring them to justice.
