Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway and rescued 27 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The successful operations were carried out over the past two days as security forces intensified efforts to curb banditry and kidnapping across the North-West.
According to security sources, troops responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about an imminent mass abduction along the busy Gummi–Sokoto highway. The soldiers engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gunfight, forcing them to flee before they could execute the planned attack.
In separate rescue missions across the two states, the troops also freed 27 people who had been abducted in earlier incidents. The victims have since been safely reunited with their families.
Security operatives recovered several livestock and motorcycles believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing criminals during the operations.
The latest successes highlight the military’s sustained offensive against armed groups operating in the region, where attacks on motorists and communities have remained a major security concern.

Security analyst Bakatsine commended the troops for their courage, professionalism and dedication, noting that their timely intervention prevented another large-scale kidnapping and brought relief to dozens of affected families.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to intensify clearance operations across the North-West as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace, protect communities and dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnappings and other violent crimes.
