The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called for a thorough investigation into the killing of Colonel Abdulsalam Ude, an Igbo Muslim officer of the Nigerian Army, describing the incident as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
In a statement released through his media team, the Sultan condemned the rising wave of hostility and discrimination against minority Igbo Muslims, stressing that such actions undermine national unity and peaceful coexistence.
He urged the federal government and the Nigerian Armed Forces to urgently uncover the circumstances surrounding the colonel’s death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
According to reports, Colonel Ude, a senior officer with the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), was attacked at his residence in the Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, Abuja.

The incident occurred late at night when suspected gunmen reportedly attempted to abduct him. He was said to have resisted the attack before being fatally shot.
The Sultan emphasized that the killing of any Nigerian, particularly a serving military officer, without a full investigation and accountability, reflects poorly on the nation’s commitment to justice and security.
He further reiterated the need for unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, noting that such values remain central to national development and stability.
The incident has sparked concern across the country, with calls for improved security measures and protection for citizens, especially those serving in sensitive national roles.
