Tanzanian club Simba SC have made a formal approach for Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, as the race for the free agent intensifies.
The 28 year old left South African side Chippa United in February and is now one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in African football. Football agent Edgah Mitemah confirmed Simba have enquired about Nwabali’s availability and view him as a priority signing to strengthen their defense.
Nwabali’s profile rose after his performances for the Super Eagles, including Nigeria’s bronze medal run at the Africa Cup of Nations. Mitemah said his displays have made him an attractive target for clubs seeking an elite goalkeeper.

Simba face competition for his signature. Tanzanian rivals Azam FC are monitoring the situation, while South African club Kaizer Chiefs have tracked Nwabali for several months. He has also been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia.
Nwabali has been training individually while weighing his options. Because he is a free agent, clubs would not pay a transfer fee. Mitemah suggested a competitive signing-on fee from Simba could be key to bringing the Nigerian international to the Tanzanian Premier League.
Negotiations are expected to move quickly. Nwabali must now decide whether to continue his career in East Africa or return to South Africa’s top flight.
