Arteta Demands Intensity as Arsenal Prepare for Atletico Test

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has called for tactical awareness and physical intensity from his side ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi final first leg against Atletico Madrid.

Speaking at a pre match press conference in Spain, Arteta said his staff have spent significant time analyzing Diego Simeone’s system. He described Atletico as a disciplined and formidable opponent in Europe.

Arteta said Arsenal must neutralize Atletico’s counter attacks before they gain momentum. He urged his players to identify threats early and test the Spanish side’s defense from the start. “Going toe-to-toe” with Atletico is the only way to handle the Metropolitano atmosphere, he added, demanding his team match the hosts’ work rate.

Arsenal will be without Kai Havertz for the first leg. The German international has been ruled out with injury, forcing Arteta to reshuffle his attack for one of the club’s biggest matches of the season.

The Gunners are seeking a result to take back to the Emirates Stadium for the second leg. Former striker Thierry Henry has warned that Atletico pose a different challenge from previous rounds, but Arteta said he is confident his squad can adapt.

Victory in Madrid would put Arsenal in position to reach their first Champions League final since 2006.
