The Nigeria Police Force has mourned the death of 10 officers killed during a gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The officers were killed on Monday during an encounter with suspected bandits along the Rafin Makuku axis, where police operatives reportedly intercepted the attackers as they moved between Zamfara and Kebbi states.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the police, the confrontation occurred at about 9:25 a.m.
At least 17 suspected bandits were reportedly neutralised during the operation, while four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed.
The police also disclosed that two other officers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, while two civilians were also killed during the encounter.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the Force and the nation.
The IGP extended his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased officers, assuring them that the sacrifices of the fallen personnel would not be forgotten.
The remains of the officers have reportedly been conveyed to Birnin Kebbi.
Meanwhile, the police said the affected area has been brought under control, with additional personnel deployed to sustain security operations and track down the fleeing members of the criminal group.
The Nigeria Police Force also assured the families of the deceased and injured personnel of its continued support, while reaffirming its determination to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
