The Nigerian Navy has raided a suspected militant camp in Fununu Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, arresting three suspected associates of a wanted militant kingpin, Sunday Godlaw.
The operation, conducted on August 6, 2026, was carried out by personnel of the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and improve security across the Niger Delta.
According to the Navy, the raid led to the recovery of three AK-47 magazines, four walkie-talkies, a ballistic vest, two camouflage uniforms, mobile phones, a power bank, machetes and a motorcycle.
The Navy’s spokesman, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, said Godlaw is wanted over alleged involvement in criminal activities, including sea robbery, piracy and illegal black sand mining in the area.

He disclosed that the suspected kingpin and some members of his group escaped before the arrival of the naval personnel, while three suspects were taken into custody.
The arrested suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), Bayelsa State Command, on August 7 for further investigation.
Folorunsho said the operation demonstrates the Navy’s determination to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region and prevent riverine communities from being used as hideouts for unlawful activities.
He added that the Navy would continue working with other security agencies to protect lives and property, secure coastal communities and strengthen maritime security across the Niger Delta.
