
A serving officer of the Nigeria Police Force has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a confrontation with fellow operatives in Niger State.
The deceased, identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed of the 61 Police Mobile Force (61 PMF), was allegedly involved in an armed robbery incident that occurred on April 15, 2026, in Kontagora.
According to police reports, Ahmed and an accomplice attacked a filling station located behind BCG Motor Park at about 2:40 pm. During the operation, they reportedly robbed an attendant and shot a victim in the chest before attempting to escape.

Operatives from the ‘A’ Division in Kontagora swiftly responded and pursued the suspects to the Dadin-Kowa area, where a gun battle broke out.
In the exchange, one of the suspects was shot in the leg, overpowered, and arrested, later identified as the serving police inspector.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured officer was initially taken to the General Hospital in Kontagora and later transferred to the Police Clinic in Minna.
He was pronounced dead in the early hours of April 16.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect who escaped during the shootout.
