The Kwara State Police Command has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, including the arrest of a suspect who allegedly exhumed a relative’s skull for ritual purposes.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Ilorin, the state capital. He noted that the achievements were made possible through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies.
According to him, the suspect, identified as Hamza Woru, was arrested in Kaiama after he allegedly dug up the remains of a deceased family member and attempted to sell the skull for ritual use.
His accomplice is currently at large, while the case has been charged to court in line with laws prohibiting dealings in human parts.
In a separate operation, police operatives intercepted an unregistered Toyota Previa along Ajase-Ipo Road on April 10.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 98 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a bag of garri, in what authorities described as a deliberate attempt to evade detection.
Three suspects were linked to the operation, with one reportedly paid ₦1.3 million to procure the ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.

The command also arrested two suspected cultists, Lukman Abdul-Salam, also known as “Ijaya,” and Aliu Ismaila, alias “Gambia,” in connection with a shop-breaking incident in the Odota area of Ilorin, where goods valued at about ₦2.5 million were stolen.
Although the suspects denied involvement in the theft, they admitted belonging to the Eiye confraternity. An empty AK-47 magazine was recovered from their residence.
Similarly, two other suspects, Fabiyi Benson Seyi and Sodiq Rasheed, were arrested in the Ganmo area following a distress call.
A locally fabricated shotgun and a live cartridge were recovered during the operation. Police confirmed that the suspects are members of a cult group allegedly terrorising the community.
In another development, a 29-year-old suspect, Umaru Aliu, was apprehended during a routine patrol along the Oroago axis. Items recovered from him included mobile phones, chargers, a POS machine, and other personal effects.
His inconsistent account of movement raised suspicion, and he is currently under investigation for possible involvement in kidnapping activities.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining security, Adekimi stated that criminal elements would find no safe haven in the state.
He assured residents that proactive measures are being taken to dismantle criminal networks and sustain peace across Kwara.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
