A Bida-based man in Niger State, Musa Mohammed, has accused a police officer attached to the Niger State Government House in Minna of allegedly defrauding him of ₦500,000 under the promise of securing a job for his son in the Nigeria Police Force.
Mohammed said the officer, identified as Etsu Ibrahim Mu’azu, assured his family that he could facilitate the recruitment of their son into the police force, a process that allegedly dragged on for about 15 months without any formal employment being secured.
According to him, the arrangement began with an initial payment of ₦250,000, with a promise that the remaining balance would be paid later when the job became available.
He said the family was later instructed to complete the full ₦500,000, allegedly due to increased demand for recruitment slots.

He explained that the family made several payments in installments, reportedly including borrowed funds, in order to meet the required amount.
Mohammed also alleged that additional sums were requested for logistics and for “settling” individuals who would assist in the posting process.
The man further stated that his son travelled to Abuja in anticipation of the recruitment process and waited for weeks without receiving any official call-up or deployment instructions. Despite repeated follow-ups, he said they were advised to remain patient.
Mohammed alleged that after months of delays and lack of progress, attempts to recover the money were unsuccessful. He further claimed that the officer told him to “do your worst” when pressed for a refund.
He said the matter has since been reported to relevant authorities for investigation, adding that he believes others may have been affected by similar circumstances.
Efforts to obtain a response from the accused officer were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, while police authorities in Niger State had also not issued an official statement.
