
A devastating rainstorm accompanied by strong winds has claimed the lives of three people and left hundreds of residents displaced in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The incident, which occurred overnight, affected several communities including Tsohon Nguru (Old Nguru) and Filing Idi. The storm caused widespread destruction, damaging homes, shops, market stalls, and other valuable properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Eyewitnesses reported that the powerful winds tore off rooftops, pulled down fences, and left many families stranded. Victims have since been forced to seek shelter in public buildings and with relatives in safer areas.

One of the residents, who lost part of his home, described the situation as heartbreaking, stating that he had to move his family to a relative’s house for safety after their roof was blown off.
Many of those affected are currently in urgent need of assistance, as they struggle to cope with the aftermath of the disaster. Community members have called on the government and well-meaning individuals to provide immediate relief and support to the victims.
The incident highlights the growing impact of extreme weather conditions in parts of northern Nigeria, raising concerns about the need for improved disaster preparedness and response systems.
