
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been terrorizing residents of the Midim community in Abak Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Thursday, followed credible intelligence received by the police. According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, operatives swiftly mobilized and stormed the criminals’ hideout in a coordinated raid.
During the operation, one suspect identified as Uduak Vincent, 28, from Ikot Ifang Village in Midim clan, was apprehended, while two other members of the gang managed to escape into a nearby bush. Efforts are currently underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Items recovered from the arrested suspect include a locally made pistol, a small axe, a knife, charms believed to be used for criminal fortification, and six wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp. Other items include two button phones, three bottles of “ice,” three rings, an Airtel SIM card, and a multi-coloured handbag.

The police revealed that the syndicate specialized in robbing unsuspecting motorcycle operators at gunpoint within the Midim area and its environs.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements. He issued a stern warning to criminals to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive action.
The police further assured residents of sustained operations aimed at ensuring safety and security across the state.
