
Ore, Ondo State – The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Samuel Akoade, for allegedly killing his mother, Olufunke Akoade, in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. in the Powerline area of the community.
The suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the police received a distress report after the victim was discovered lying in a pool of blood at her residence.
He explained that officers from the Ore Division immediately responded to the scene, secured the area, and began a preliminary investigation.
According to the police, a machete believed to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the crime scene was documented for further investigation.

Jimoh stated that the suspect initially fled before officers arrived but was later apprehended through coordinated efforts by the police.
“The suspected assailant was reported to have fled the scene before the arrival of the police. However, following sustained efforts by the operatives, Samuel Akoade was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody,” he said.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for a comprehensive investigation.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed investigators to ensure a thorough and professional investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information about suspicious activities within their communities
